AI-Assisted Learning Lab
The AI-AL (AI-Assisted Learning Lab) works at the intersection of AI and education to design AI-enabled learning technologies. The lab focuses on the goal of leveraging AI to improve access to quality computer science education.
Arg Lab
The Arg Lab is focused on developing innovative and effective educational interventions and educational data mining; on deploying those technologies to support students, educators, and educational institutions in rich complex domains such as Argumentation, software development, and design; and on analyzing the real-world impact of those technologies to develop appropriate policies that enhance their utility while safeguarding the rights of students, educators, and communities.
CEREAL Lab
The Computing Education Research Engaging All Learners (CEREAL) group investigates innovative strategies in computer science education to enhance learning and engagement among middle and high-school-aged students. It explores interactive coding platforms, collaborative virtual environments, and gamified programming exercises in fostering deeper comprehension and sustained interest in computer science.
Data-Driven Decision Lab
The Data-Driven Decision group is dedicated to the discovery of robust strategies for adaptive, effective, and personalized decision making in complex interactive environments. To that end, they focus on identifying and understanding personalized intervention decisions for interactive environments and developing a general data-driven framework for the discovery of robust strategies for adaptive personalized decision making.
Game2Learn Lab
The Game2Learn group researches the impact of games and data-driven adaptation on learning through a number of innovative approaches. They build games and interactive tools for learning in math and computing, building social networks, promoting exercise, and visualizing interaction data from games and learning environments.
HINTS Lab
The Help through INTelligent Support (HINTS) Lab develops learning environments that automatically support students with data-driven help features. With a focus on computing education, their goal is to reimagine programming environments as adaptive, interactive systems that help students to pursue learning goals that are meaningful to them. Their research emphasizes practical methods that can scale to new classrooms and contexts, without placing additional burden on instructors.
IEC Lab
The IEC Lab’s central mission is to advance a theory of advanced educational computing for practical and theoretical purposes: (1) To provide better learning and instructional opportunities for students and teachers, and (2) to advance theories of how people learn. Our technology innovation focuses on artificial intelligence such as new machine learning algorithms and new big data mining methods. We believe that everybody should have equal opportunity to receive a high-quality education and a need-based assistance.
iEXCEL Lab
The Innovation for Experiential, Complex, Open-Ended Learning group conducts research on learning technologies and learning analytics with a focus on human-centered computing for the learning sciences. The work is carried out at the intersection of computer human-computer interaction, learning sciences, and complexity science.
IntelliMedia Group
