Dr. Xiaoyi Tian is a Research Scientist at North Carolina State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing from the University of Florida and holds an M.S. in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh, along with a B.S. in Management Science from Anhui University in China. Dr. Tian’s research focuses on computer science and AI education, human-computer interaction, and collaborative learning. The overarching goal of her research is to understand how humans learn individually and collaboratively and to build user-centered systems to support learning and collaboration.

Dr. Tian’s dissertation focused on designing for middle school children to build their own conversational agents and learn about artificial intelligence (tool demo video and paper). By leveraging human-centered design methods and artificial intelligence techniques, she aims to enhance K-12 AI education and cultivate productive human-human and human-AI collaboration. In addition to her research, Dr. Tian is committed to broadening participation in STEM and AI. She leads the STARS AI Scholars program, which connects college students, K-12 teachers, and faculty from institutions across the U.S. through AI learning opportunities and outreach programs.

See Dr. Tian’s Google Scholar Page for a list of her publications.
